Pelissero knocks down a Maye-Vrabel rift. Both already denied it.

New England plays Buffalo on Sunday. This is not a ticket.

A Bleacher Report alert this morning said Tom Pelissero discredited talk of problems between Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel.

The rumor came from WEEI's Greg Hill, who said unnamed people told him Maye was not Vrabel's quarterback.

Vrabel said he took the Patriots job because Maye was the quarterback.

Maye said Vrabel has been one of the best coaches he has had, and that nothing has changed. He also said a right shoulder issue is not changing his throws.

Four Wild Card Game 2s, and four teams already facing elimination

Atlanta, the White Sox, the Yankees, and the Padres lead 1–0. Starters are projected and can change. This is not a ticket.

Wednesday is Game 2 of all four best-of-three Wild Card series. Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and San Diego each lead 1–0, so Philadelphia, Houston, Boston, and the Cubs are facing elimination. A win sends the leader on. A loss forces a Game 3 on Thursday.

Phillies at Braves, 2:00 PM ET, NBC and Peacock. Projected starters: Cristopher Sánchez and Tyler Mahle. Braves lead 1–0. Atlanta won Game 1, 5–3, on Austin Riley’s three-run homer off Jhoan Duran in the eighth after J.T. Realmuto’s two-run triple had put Philadelphia ahead 3–2. Sánchez finished the regular season 18–7 with a 2.91 ERA. Mahle was 7–10 with a 3.99 ERA. Another Braves win would send them to the NL Division Series against the Dodgers.

White Sox at Astros, 5:00 PM ET, Peacock and NBCSN. Projected starters: Sean Burke and Hunter Brown. White Sox lead 1–0 after a 6–3 Game 1. Colson Montgomery homered in his postseason debut. Houston used eight pitchers. Brown posted a 2.47 ERA over his final eight regular-season starts, with three double-digit strikeout games, and he was 2–0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts against Chicago. A White Sox win would send them to the ALDS against Cleveland.

Red Sox at Yankees, 8:00 PM ET, NBC and Peacock. Projected starters: Sonny Gray and Max Fried. Yankees lead 1–0 after a 9–0 Game 1. Cam Schlittler struck out 10 over 6⅓ scoreless innings. Ben Rice homered twice and drove in six. Fried is 4–1 with a 1.93 ERA in seven career starts against Boston. Gray finished 18–5 with a 2.72 ERA. Fried’s ERA is 2.80. Boston scored 71 runs in September, the fewest in MLB. A Yankees win would send them to the ALDS against Tampa Bay.

Cubs at Padres, 10:00 PM ET, Peacock and NBCSN. Projected starters: Kevin Gausman and Nick Pivetta. Padres lead 1–0 after an 8–0 Game 1. Michael King allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings and struck out eight. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a leadoff homer. Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts also homered. Pete Crow-Armstrong went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts, and he is 5-for-30 in his postseason career. A Padres win would send them to the NLDS against Milwaukee.

Starting pitchers, lineups, and broadcasts can still change.

Giants release Beckham and add McCarthy; Mayfield sidelined, Ekeler expected back

Beckham’s release and Ekeler’s return are still reported. Harbaugh confirmed Burns’ torn ACL. Bowles said Daniels starts while Mayfield is out at least three weeks.

The New York Giants are releasing Odell Beckham Jr., multiple reports said Tuesday. He played 20 offensive snaps in three games and did not record a reception. He was targeted once in the 12–7 win over Tennessee. He had sat out 2025 and made the initial 53-man roster. From 2014 through 2018 with the Giants he had 390 receptions, 5,476 yards, and 44 touchdowns. (Reuters)

The Giants acquired J.J. McCarthy from the Vikings for a 2027 fifth-round pick, according to NFL and Giants reporting. Jaxson Dart’s Week 2 knee injury is expected to end his regular season. Jameis Winston started the Week 3 win. McCarthy was the 10th pick in 2024. Winston remains in the quarterback picture. The Giants are not handing McCarthy the job immediately.

John Harbaugh confirmed Monday that Brian Burns suffered a torn ACL in the fourth quarter of the win over Tennessee. He will have surgery and miss the rest of 2026. He had been playing through an ankle injury from the Rams game. Next Gen Stats credited him with five quarterback pressures in three games.

Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb late in Tampa Bay’s 23–16 loss to Minnesota and is out at least three weeks. Todd Bowles said rookie Jalon Daniels will start. Daniels finished that game 0-for-3 with an interception and 9 rushing yards. Mayfield had started 57 straight games for Tampa Bay. Week 4 is against Green Bay.

Austin Ekeler is expected to return to Washington. NFL Network reported the Commanders planned to sign him to the 53-man roster pending a physical. He played two games last season before a torn Achilles, then worked out for Carolina. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has 142 rushing yards on 47 carries. Rachaad White has 100 rushing yards on 22 carries through Week 3.

Dolphins lose De’Von Achane for the season after a torn ACL

Reported out for the rest of 2026. Miami has not posted a surgery or recovery timeline in this story.

The Miami Dolphins have suffered a major blow to their offense, with star running back De’Von Achane expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL during Miami’s Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The injury occurred Sunday during the Dolphins’ 24–10 home loss to Kansas City. Achane was injured on an 11-yard run during Miami’s opening possession and was unable to return.

According to Sportsnet, citing reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, further testing confirmed Monday that Achane suffered a torn ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Miami opened with a 17-play, 91-yard touchdown drive. Achane was the ball carrier or the intended receiver on four of the first five offensive plays. The injury came on an 11-yard run to the left. He got up, went to the sideline, was checked in the medical tent, and then went to the locker room. The Dolphins ruled him out. Miami’s game recap said the injury happened on the opening possession and that he did not return.

Through three games in 2026, the story lists 34 rushes, 127 rushing yards, 3.7 yards per carry, 7 receptions, and 49 receiving yards. He had 31 of Miami’s 47 running-back rushing attempts before Sunday. In 2025 he rushed for 1,350 yards on 238 carries (5.7 per attempt), with 8 rushing touchdowns, 488 receiving yards, and 4 receiving touchdowns.

Ollie Gordon II carried 17 times for 41 yards and Miami’s only touchdown after Achane left. Miami is 0–3 and plays at the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 on Sunday, October 4.

This story will be updated if Miami releases more on the injury, surgery, or recovery timeline.
